It is a very convincing and readable book. But Dr. Michael Egnor has not yet raised the necessary scientific implications of his conclusion on existence of human soul: (a) upon what energy a human soul feeds itself, (b) how it receives that energy and (c) the consequent biological outcome of the energy consumption process.
This article is found in the official website of the Royal College of Psychiatrist. Dr. David McDonald is an experienced psychiatrist. He shared a case of "possession or oppression". It seems that there is not yet any serious scientific studies of phenomena of that kind. What need to be done are careful collection of data followed by an assessment of whether and how they are incompatible with the current understanding on what human consciousness is. It would be especially fruitful if the evidences collected by Dr. Michael Egnor are examined together as a whole.
In this talk Dr. Adrian Owen illustrated how simple experiment can ascertain whether a person in vegetative state is actually fully conscious. The test he used is simple. But he has not yet proceeded to examine act of will. The patient can choose to answer or not the questions put to him. The state of affirmative will, which is an act of will for readiness to answer questions, does not activate any part of the brain. During the short period of time the patient is waiting for question, there is no scan result showing that any part of the brain is activated. But this act of will itself in itself requires consciousness. Can we say that his experiment is evidence that consciousness does not originate from the brain? Furthermore, Dr. Owen has not yet conducted experiment on asking a patient to imagine flapping wings at the back. Assume that the patient indicates "yes" that he does attempt such an imagination. This imagination also requires consciousness. But if no part of brain is activated, is it another evidence that consciousness does not originate from the brain?
